Life in the Wild

Our new yard is teeming with wildlife.

So far, in our yard, we have observed:

-rabbits, including tiny baby bunnies

-red squirrels

-gray squirrels, fighting the red squirrels for tree territory

-a large, menacing stray cat weighing about 50 pounds, we thought it was a dog at first

-cardinals

-robins

-chipmunks

It’s like a regular Wild Kingdom out there. We also have evidence of raccoons in our crawlspace, their pawprints are all over the basement window, like they were patting it down, trying to find the opening to get in and ransack the place.

In the city, our only wildlife was pigeons, with the occasional rat wandering the street. Oh, and dogs. Our apartment building was engulfed with dogs. They sometimes would even be in the halls alone, without owners, knocking on doors and running away laughing, or waiting for the elevators.

Dogs we’re OK with – We’re just hoping there’s no bears in the suburbs.

  2. Hey Pam & Robert! Congratulations on your new home! It’s so cute! And I’m so proud of you for picking such wonderful colors! Most of my house is off-white. Ugh! I am trying to become a lttle more daring as far as paint goes. You are an inspiration to me!

Wildlife is awsome! We have had 8 wild turkeys that have visited are yard for years. We’ve watched some of them grow from young chicks (if that’s what they’re called) to huge adults with chicks of their own. We’ve actually named some of them. If you plan on planting flowers, watch out for those squirrels. They will dig them up just for the heck of it!

I’m so happy for you both. Enjoy your new home and each other!

    Love you,
    Kathy
